We all know that the human body is largely water and we all accept that we should drink water to be healthy; we read or hear about it all the time. However, most people don’t really understand just how harmful Dehydration can be.

This one of the reasons we’re so passionate about having a Water Dispenser in the Workplace. It makes water consumption so much easier, mitigating some of the following issues. All the following can negatively impact an employee’s productivity and become very costly to a business, but all can be easily resolved.

Simple dehydration can cause tiredness, mild headaches or lack of concentration. Although these impact performance, they aren’t too serious to your health, but if you become only a slightly bit more dehydrated then the effects can become quite serious.

Initially Mild headaches could become serious Migraines, taking an employee out of the workplace for days at a time , but it’s what we don’t see on the outside that can cause us long term illness or worse!

Serious illnesses caused by dehydration include Irregular blood-pressure or Kidney problems. Even constipation caused by lack of water in our diets has been linked to more sinister bowl problems.

So what should an individual look out for to know if they are becoming dehydrated and in need of more water?

Symptoms of Dehydration

Dark Urine – Dark Yellow or Orange or strong smelling Urine indicates that you need to drink more water.
Dry Skin – Skin is the largest body organ and requires its share of water.
Thirst – Thirst is the most obvious sign that you’re already dehydrated. It is always a good practice to drink more water when your are not thirsty, don’t wait until you are.
Hunger – Most people mistaken hungry is the indication to eat more, whereas in actual fact, you may be dehydrated. A great weight management tip!
Fatigue – Water is a source of energy, so give yoursefl a boost in energy with water rather than chemical filled Energy Drinks.

How much water should you drink a day to avoid dehydration?

A common approach is to drink 8 glasses or one and half litres of water a day and this why a water cooler at work so important. It makes it easy and convenient. As it’s usually filtered it tends to better for you than just tap water, and because it’s usually chilled, it’s more pleasant and has the additional benefit of being more refreshing.

In a previous post, I listed 5 reasons I gave a new customer who ask why they should consider a Mains Fed Water Dispenser, instead of it’s bottled counterpart. Here are 5 additional advantages you might want to consider:

No running out of water. Since the Water Dispenser is constantly connected to the mains water supply there is no way to run out of water. Regardless of how many people have access to water you will never run out.
The water tastes great. The filtration system in the Water Dispensers we supply ensures the water tastes just as sweet as spring water. In blind taste tests it’s impossible to tell the difference.4
No risk of algae contamination. Bottled water, if stored for long periods of time in sunlight will grow an algae bloom. Though not hazardous it looks awful, like pond water! Since mains water is always freshly supplied there is no risk of algae getting into it.
Total convenience. Mains-Fed Water Dispensers can be positioned close to employees desks, even when some distance away from a mains supply. Bottled water has to be transported from the point of receipt to a storage location then on to the location of the Water Dispenser. In some offices this can mean moving the bottles through offices and up stairs, all of which cause disruption in the workplace.
You are helping the environment. By using mains supplied water there are no plastic bottles involved. This means no plastic is created, consuming energy and contributing to carbon emissions. There are no bottles to dispose of which create recycling and waste management problems. There are no deliveries of water which involve transportation which creates carbon emissions.

And, although I don’t list this , it should be mentioned that typically it’s actually cheaper as well!
